Facebook has restructured its News Feed algorithm – again. Now, Facebook says that it will seek to identify and boost outlets that are the first to break a developing story or topic. When stories about the same topic are posted by multiple news outlets, Facebook will strive to boost the most original version of the story to help it get more distribution.
Additionally, the update will also boost content from news sources like ours that provide information on their reporters so that stories with “transparent authorship” are prioritized. As users become more and more reliant on social media for news, Facebook aims to reward transparency and reliable reporting through this change to the algorithm.
According to Social Media Today, “…the idea, on Facebook’s part, is that by boosting original, in-depth reporting, Facebook will be rewarding those outlets that invest time and money into their work.”
